Matsuura’s Manufacturing

Integrated Production
with Micron-Level Precision
in Every Part

The manufacturing floor that upholds Matsuura quality

In the end, precision is multiplicative in nature, rather than additive.

A machine tool is made up of roughly 20,000 parts. The precision of every single part ultimately determines the machine's final accuracy. However, this level of precision is not a matter of addition, but multiplication. No matter how high the precision of all other parts may be, a single part with insufficient precision is enough to greatly harm overall performance.
That is why we handle the entire process in-house, from component development and design to machining and assembly, fully committed to micron-level precision every step of the way.

Straight where it must be straight; square where it must be square.

Machines with slight misalignments can still move "straight" through electrical corrections. Even if it's possible to temporarily compensate for these misalignments, though, repeated corrections cause stress on the parts, eventually leading to deterioration and loss of accuracy. Matsuura machines achieve long service life and sustained accuracy because we remain faithful to the fundamentals: straight where it must be straight; square where it must be square. From hand scraping by skilled craftsmen to the countless steps that follow, we carry out each process with time and care to achieve the highest level of precision.

Machining: A machine's final accuracy is built part by part.

Each pallet is polished individually under the same operating conditions as the machine in actual use.

To minimize variation between pallets and achieve repeatability within ±3 μm, each pallet undergoes finishing on a rotary grinding machine. We use a master clamping device that replicates the same clamping mechanism as the production machine.

Precision Temperature Control Within ±1°C Keeps the High-Speed Spindle Reliable

The spindle, a key component in high-speed machining, is ground in a precision grinding room maintained at 21 ± 1°C at all times. This controlled environment minimizes the effects of thermal expansion and helps ensure stable grinding accuracy. The outer diameter, inner diameter, and end face are ground in a single setup to prevent misalignment and maximize precision.

The Smart Line: Bringing Matsuura's Technologies Together

This is our latest production line. It automates manual tasks, enables extended unattended operation, and minimizes downtime. Using IoT-based monitoring and preventive maintenance, along with automated cleaning and deburring and an integrated coolant management system, we pursue manufacturing that keeps running.

Assembly: Micron-Level Craftsmanship for Long-Lasting Accuracy

Beyond Machining: Hand Scraping by Skilled Craftsmen

All critical mating surfaces are finished by hand scraping. Skilled craftsmen carefully remove the remaining micron-level high spots left after machining. By increasing the contact area, this improves damping performance and helps absorb machine vibration. We also apply intentional surface biasing to account for deformation under real operating loads, achieving ultimate accuracy and long service life.

Linear guide rail straightness and parallelism within 2μm

This minimizes stress during linear-guide travel and helps maintain stable machine accuracy.

Ball screw parallelism and runout are within 10μm

This helps minimize axis-feed vibration and reduces unevenness in simultaneous-axis feed.

Uncompromising craftsmanship, even in the unseen details

We use black-coated linear guides for the axes below the table (pallet), offering excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance. To maintain performance even in harsh environments, we apply the same uncompromising standards from component selection onward.

High-speed spindle finished under thorough temperature control

The spindle assembly room is strictly maintained at 21 ±1°C. In this controlled environment, we perform balance adjustment at every stage: the spindle alone, with the motor installed, and after installation in the machine. This minimizes vibration during high-speed rotation.
